Recall that Governor Nyesom Wike Rescue oJoy Nunie was not the first time, He Rescued A Northern Judge First.

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike divided opinions this week when he rescued Former N.D.D.C Managing Director, Joy Nunie from arrest/Abduction.

The governor’s action wasn't a surprise to many as it wasn't the first time the Governor will put his life at risk in a bid to serve the people of Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole.

Recall that in October 8,2016, Governor Wike rescued Mohammed Liman, A judge from the operatives of the department of State Services (DSS).

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) had stormed 35 Forces Avenue, Port Harcourt, the residence of Liman.

The DSS had raided the houses of Some Judges across the country while searching for evidence linking the judges to corruption. PortHarcourt latter played host to the DSS when they came in the late hours of the night in the House of justice Liman at 35 Forces Avenue, Port Harcourt.

The action of the DSS led to the prosecution of Some judges, but Wike ensured that Liman was not arrested on the night that security operatives laid siege to his residence.

His reason for stopping them according to Governor Wike was not to obstruct the security agency, but because of not following due process.

To him, it doesn’t matter what it will cost. When you talk about liberty, sacrifices must be made. All that was his concern was that all things must be done decently and in line with the rule of law.

He stated that, not under his watch, will he allow such kind of impunity to take place. He said the Governors, are elected to maintain law and order, that though he doesn't know which judge they were detailed to abduct, it wasn't his concern to know which judge. All he was interested in,was that, at this level, it is not allowed, to perform such gustapo kind of act.

He went on to say Justice Liman was not a criminal and was not an armed robber. If the Judge had committed an offence, what was needed was simply to invite him. It is only when he refuses to honour the invitation that you can adopt him in such a commando style.

He narrated how the then Commissioner of Police in Rivers State was at the scene of the incident alongside the DSS. And how they cocked their guns and threatened to shoot him. "I have never seen that before. Again, this is to tell you what we are facing. We know that more will come. For us in this state, we shall continue to resist it" he decried.

To him then,Rivers State was under siege. That is why a governor was out at such time of the day, indicating that something was wrong. He said If such kind of action happens next time, the people will resist it to the last.

Justice Liman was letter cleared of any wrong doing, which even made the action of Governor Wike more beautiful.

Almost Four years after the vow to resist any unlawful abduction and arrest, the Vibrant and unfearful Governor made true his statement with his brave action of rescuing the NDDC Former managing director

What should be emphasized here is that , there are procedures to follow when you want to arrest every citizen in Nigeria. Whether it a common man on the street or a big fellow, especially when an invitation was extended to such a person and it wasn't due for the person to appear before such an invitee, due process must be followed and nothing more pretentious.

We can only wish that the Governor extend such duty of care to all Rivers indigenes big or small.

It is very clear now that the Governor's insistence on due process and display of bravery in the face of daunting challenges is commendable.
